Liability Facts:A 17 year-old female that was five days post delivery was taken to the emergency room at Newton General Hospital with complaints of severe headaches, fever, and blurred vision. A CT scan was done and the results were negative. The Plaintiff had symptoms of postpartum eclampsia, but no urinalysis or blood test to check the red blood cell count or platelets was performed. The Plaintiff, being a teenager, was at an increased risk of postpartum eclampsia. The ER physician diagnosed the Plaintiff with migraine headaches and discharged her from the hospital.

The Plaintiff returned home and went into an eclamptic seizure.

The Plaintiff returned to the emergency room at Newton General in the early morning hours the next day suffering from an eclamptic seizure with headaches, blurred vision and a high fever. An MRI was done on the Plaintiff and her symptoms were consistent with that of a grand mal seizure. The Plaintiff requested transport to Rockdale Hospital because of neurosurgery capability and treatment by her OB/GYN. The Plaintiff was diagnosed with postpartum eclampsia by her treating physician at Rockdale Hospital.

Injury Facts: The Plaintiff was hospitalized for four days and suffered confusion, decreased visual functioning and blurred vision as a result of the seizures. None of the injuries were permanent.
